A Hidden Valley High School student and her older brother were killed in a car accident Thursday morning in northern California. Grants Pass resident Chelsea Silva, 17, and Joshua Silva, 25, of Willits, Calif., were in a crash on Highway 101, north of Garberville, Calif., according to a police report from the California Highway patrol. Police were called to the scene after witnesses reported Silva's 2001 Dodge 3500 pickup truck had gone over a cliff near the highway. The pickup was found down the cliff and both Silvas had been ejected. Rescuers found Chelsea Silva pinned under the truck. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Joshua Silva was flown by helicopter to Ukiah Valley Medical center, where he was pronounced dead. Chelsea was entering her senior year at Hidden Valley High School this fall. Both she and Joshua are the children of Susan Silva of Grants Pass. The preliminary CHP investigation found Joshua Silva had been driving southbound on the highway and passed a slower moving truck. Silva's vehicle almost hit a northbound pickup truck, wentout of control and over a guardrail, rolling several times as it went down the embankment. The truck ended up about 100 feet below the highway. Neither victim was wearing a seat belt, according to police. The other drivers were not injured. Evergreen Federal Bank has set up an account for donations to help the Silva family.
